SchoolTube: Science

SchoolTube is a relatively new (2007) online video-sharing service designed specifically for schools, teachers, and students, and contains thousands of school, teacher, and student-produced videos. While not dedicated to science, science is a Level One category in the offering, the service contains nearly 900 science-related videos that have been viewed more than half a million times, and appears to be growing its science content collection rapidly (we estimate at a rate of 200-300%/year).

Along the way, the service has partnered with a number of prominent education organizations, including the NEA, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Consortium for School Networking, and the National Honor Society, among others. While its focus has been on schools, it's clearly appropriate for out-of-school use as well, and one of the things we hope to discuss about it is how it might be adapted and used by/in parks, museums, science centers, and other informal education settings.
